"A 2D platformer with extensive levels and many collectibles and hidden rooms and shit. Hell yeah. And the advanced movement is simple to understand yet rewarding. Hell yeah." You probably know Celeste as a pretty tough and technical 2d platformer, which is what it is.
Here's my main Celeste profile that I've used since I first booted up the game.
Yeah, a lotta deaths that took a lot of time, I even got a few of the golden strawberries (14 to be exact). Though I was finished collecting and completing by hour 40, so what gives?
Well, after completing the main content of celeste, I wished to find more to do, and so I looked. And I found 2 things that have since massively bolstered both my skill and my time played (about 200 hours at time of writing)
The first thing I found was piles upon piles of custom levels, some more notable being the strawberry jams, and D-sides. These were really cool to me, seeing the creativity and mechanics that built upon my knowledge of the base game and really added to my enjoyment of the movement engine.
The second thing I found, however, was a pretty simple self-imposed challenge run.

I would like to take the time to mention that it's my trophy room, not anyone elses. I put in some amount of effort and even if I'm not world class I'm still proud of where I got. That being said here are my two category PB's.

If you know anything about speedrunning, it's probably of this category. The rules are pretty simple, get to the credits in absolutely any manner you can manage (except cheating lul). While this run would only put me somewhere around 3,500th place out of around 7k globally, I certainly fuckin worked for it. First getting a sub-hour, then sub-50 minute time took me more than 10 runs, and plenty of practice and reviewing routes.
I probably wouldn't ever brag about this to someone, but if I were putting my hard-earned video game accomplishments on a neocities page, this would probably be one of the first things I'd think to list.

Between the two, I enjoy this run a lot more. Being able to see all the game's content and trying to string it together as fast as possible is a really fun time. Obviously based on the amount of time it takes me to complete one, this isn't a run I practice often. When it happens though I like to stream it in my discord and hang out with my friends. I love my friends.
Unfortunately this run makes me look even worse than the last one, with my time putting me just a couple spots shy of last place. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
